I have been offering personal maths tuition around the Oxford area for several years, mixing mathematics tuition with time spent traveling around the world on kayaking expeditions. With a range of educational experience from classroom teaching, learning support and sports coaching I tutor at a wide range of levels from numeracy work to undergraduate mathematics courses, with the majority being GCSE and A Level work.
Most lessons take place on weekday evenings. Tuition is mostly provided in hour long weekly sessions, however longer lessons and more intensive programs can be arranged. I am available for tuition all day during week days and by occasional arrangement at weekends.
For most lessons I travel to tutor at the tutees home, although I also provide lessons at my home in Botley where that is more suitable.
Lessons are charged at £25 per hour for GCSE and below, £30 per hour for A level and above. There maybe some additional cost for long travel times and distances.
Before starting tuition I will generally arrange a 15 - 20 minute meeting so that you can meet me and discuss potential tuition. These meetings are free whatever the outcome.
I graduated from Cambridge University with a 2:1 in mathematics in 2003 following which I worked in mathematical learning support. I gained a PGCE teaching qualification from Oxford in 2005. After working as a secondary maths teacher I moved to providing mathematics tuition. I prefer the personal element and the obvious differences which I can make in both student's performance and confidence. I also kayak to a high level and tuition has allowed me the flexibility to participate in a number of long expeditions around the world, including to Tibet and the Venezuelan Andes. These expeditions have involved exploratory first descents of difficult rivers in challenging and remote areas. I hold a full CRB enhanced disclosure.
